School is out for summer!!!! I still remember that feeling I would get when I was young and school was out for summer break! Anticipation of trips to the beach, camping with my grandparents, swimming at Tanglewood and at Clemmons West pool, kick ball with neighbors in the front yard at night... not a care in the world!!!
Yesterday was the last day of school for my boys. Excited for them as their Summer Fun begins. Today they are leaving with my parents and their cousin, Jessica, to spend a few days in Brevard, NC. Will do a little site seeing, slide down Sliding Rock in Pisgah National Forest, and just enjoy the first days of summer break with their Maw and PawPaw. This summer they have plans of sleeping in late, hangin' with friends, pool, family trip to the beach and church camp at Laurel Ridge.
This summer I will be taking care of Will, Sissy and CJ. Will and Sis are here today and we have made lists of things to do this summer to make sure they have a great summer also. The lists include trips to different playgrounds, swimming, story time at the Library, running through the sprinkler, picnics, movies, and much, much more!
Let the Dog Days of Summer Begin!!!!
Journalin' Jill
I've been thinking about doing a Blog... but wondering... Does anybody really care what I have to say? I've decided to go ahead and go for it. However, I'm calling it a Journal instead of a Blog in honor of my grandmother who started a journal in her later years. So..here it goes.. "Journalin' Jill". Journals to chronicle events in my life, and to document my thoughts and feelings about my family and friends.

My Friend Sissy
I am not ashamed to say that one of my best friends is a 5 year old girl named Sissy! :) Sissy's real name is Melissa but she has been known as Sissy or Sis before she was even born. I take care of Sissy during the day while her mother and father work and I have done so since she was 8 weeks old. This fall she will be leaving me to go to Kindergarten and I can't even think about putting in to words how hard that is going to be!
Obviously we can't carry on the same conversations I can with friends that are my age. But, on the other hand, there are plenty of things I can talk with her about and do with her that I can't do with my other friends. I mean, how many 40 something aged friends want to lay in the grass and count how many birds fly over in a minute. And, while doing that ask, "How many ants do you think we have squished while we have been laying here?" Or, how many of my friends will go wtih me to Story Time at the library and truly get excited when the art project includes glitter glue?
I have two boys and had plenty of "play time" with them. I cherish that time with them especially now that they are getting older. I enjoy playing with Sis because it brings back those wonderful memories of playing with Joey and Matt. I have to say though some of it is different with a girl and since she is not my daughter it has become more of a friendship than of an adult / child relationship. And, let's face it, I didn't get to play Barbies with Joey and Matt. They didn't want me to paint their nails, or want me to play dress up or have tea parties where we stick out our pinkies. Don't get me wrong, she can play dinosaurs with the best of them and would rather watch Sponge Bob over Cinderella. She loves to put on dressy clothes and have her hair look pretty but is much more comfy in t-shirts and shorts.
Sissy has kept me feeling young and has taught me to have fun each and every day. Something as simple as going to the mailbox can be fun with Sissy. With her you can skip there or you can guess how many steps it takes you to get there. You can even predict if there will be a spider inside the box and if you think there is, will it be black or brown?
I thank God for her every day! I can't wait to see what she accomplishes in school but I am going to miss her smiling face in the mornings, cuddling with her at nap time, and her hugs and "I love you Nanny Jill"s when she leaves each day. There is no doubt she will remain a huge part of my life. Not just because her parents are my friends or because she lives less than a mile from my house, but because she will always be one of my Best Friends. She has so much more to teach me and I have a thing or two more to teach her. I think I will start with the fact that the area above your eyes is called your forehead NOT your fourth head! :)

First Journal Entry!
OK, I said I was going to give it a shot, so here it goes!
First, I guess it would be best to give a quick "blurb" about what is going on in my life at this time...
I have been married to Jay, my fun, lovin' life husband for 18 years. We have lived in Lewisville, NC for 11 years now. We are the proud parents of two handsome boys. Joseph William, Joey, is 17 and is soon to be a senior in high school. Matthew Jay, Matt, is 15 and will be a sophomore. (Wow! It is so hard for me to believe they are that old.)
During the time I have not worked outside of the home, I have provided child care to some of my friends children. This has allowed me the opportunity to be a "Stay at Home Mom" and still have an income. I am lovingly known as "Nanny Jill" to Jake, Nicholas, Grace, Will, Melissa, Riley, CJ and Milania. Currently I take care of Melissa (aka..Sissy), CJ and Milania. Very soon my buddy Will will be here to join us for some summer fun! It has truly been a blessing to take care of each one of these children, watch them grow and see their sweet little personalities come to life.
Speaking of being blessed, I have a wonderful family and an awesome group of friends! I thank God for all of them and look forward to journaling about each very soon. But, that's it for now... duty calls, I have a lil one here by my side requiring my attention! :)

One more thing, Happy Birthday to my beautiful friend since 5th grade, Julie Edwards Raines!
